Live + Play : What's a Google Play Point?

When people think of Google, it’s hard to think of “Play”, but Google is actually a really fun company with a lot of options to play.

But when you just say Google Play, there’s a slew of words attached to it, the main being “Google Play'' or the “Play Store” which is the gateway to all the apps Android users rely on. The “play store” then spawned the “play” family, Music (currently YouTube Music), Books, Movies/TV & Games!

Now, the newest members of the “Play” family is The Play Pass, and the Play Point, we’re gonna go over the later!

So... What's a Play Point?

The Google Play Point is a new feature added to the Play Store in the second half of 2019. It's been exclusive to the United States for a bit, then opened up to North America and is now opening it's international boarders!

It’s Google’s own form of Digital Promotional Currency, like so many gas chains or Plenti etc,. You spend a buck via Google, you get a Play Point. For people like me who can spend a tidy sum a month in Google Subscriptions, this is AMAZING.

So like most promo currency you spend money and you get points. But now Google’s getting fancy.

You can earn bonus points a month by subscribing to services (Disney+, Google 1, The Google Play Pass)

Here's how to get to your Play points:

Open your Google Play Store

Click the Menu/"Hamburger" in the top left

Click Play points

You can earn free points by installing apps (don’t even have to play them or open em)

You can earn free points via a weekly giveaway (every Friday!)

You earn play points from buying/renting things via the Play Store (Books, movies, even add ons for games you already love like Pokemon Go, Angry birds, etc.)

You can earn free points by spending money on Stadia!

Probably the biggest one to me. “Oh okay Drake, I get 1 point for every buck, big whoop. I spend like maybe 5 bucks a month on the Google store like a normal person.” Well good for you, but if you’re a gamer, ANY new game is 70 bucks. You buy it through Stadia and boom it’s 70 bucks AND PLAY POINTS!

(I earned 240 play points when I bought Cyberpunk 2077 by multiplying my earnings for a week as a reward, from earning points…. lol)
